Слушаем массу разной музыки, как старой, так и современной. Росли, в основном, на британском роке. Мы играем то, что могло бы понравиться нам самим. В конечном итоге, ты делаешь это, прежде всего, для себя. Например, тебе нечего послушать на плеере – можешь послушать что-то из своего. Или понимаешь, что какой-то музыки тебе не хватает – и можешь сам записать именно то, что нужно.

Альбом «Невермайнд» – русскоязычный, хотя до этого в репертуаре группы были песни на английском. Как вы решили для себя вопрос – петь на русском или английском, что подтолкнуло к такому выбору?

На самом деле, мы не перешли на русский язык окончательно, по-прежнему поем и на том, и на другом. Просто захотели записать именно русскоязычный материал, который накопился… в будущем обязательно выйдет и чисто англоязычная пластинка, но скорее всего под другим именем. Сейчас мы InWhite – группа, которая живет в России и поет на русском языке.

У вас есть опыт взаимодействия с краудфандингом. Какие впечатления, будете ли повторять опыт?

Действительно, наши поклонники помогали нам собрать определенную сумму на выпуск нашего альбома, но нам кажется, что для молодых команд этот способ пока не работает на сто процентов. А имеет он смысл только в том случае, если срабатывает на все сто. Может быть, что мы повторим эксперимент позже – скажем, лет через десять.

Поклонники группы сообщают, что вокалистка Юлия очень любит птиц и не очень любит получать розы. Откуда взялась любовь к первым и нелюбовь ко вторым? Какими цветами можно порадовать исполнительницу?

Действительно, Юля любит птиц, любит цветы, но не розы… Дело в том, что она выступает на сцене с юных лет – и почти всегда получала в подарок розы. Но ассоциации с этим цветами какие-то приторно-сладкие, это необъяснимая неприязнь. В следующий раз попробуйте подарить Юле подсолнухи – это ее точно порадует.

Известно, что Дмитрий Емельянов работает вместе с Земфирой. Как вам удается совмещать два проекта, особенно если речь идет о гастролях?

Вопрос с совмещением решился на удивление легко. Дело в том, что раньше Евгению приходилось зарабатывать на жизнь, участвуя едва ли не в десятке проектов одновременно. Сейчас есть возможность заниматься музыкой более вдумчиво, уделять ей больше времени – и это прекрасно.

In March, we asked fans of Moscow indie band InWhite to come up with some questions for their favorite musicians. Now it's time to get the answers. Why doesn't vocalist Yulia like roses and how does keyboardist Dmitry manage to combine his work in InWhite and Zemfira? Now we'll find out!

What sort of music do you listen to? Can you play exactly what you want or are you forced to adapt to each other's tastes?

We listen to a lot of different music, both old-fashioned and modern. We mostly grew up on British rock. We play the sort of music that we like ourselves. In the end, you do it primarily for yourself. For example, you can listen to some of your own music if you've got nothing else to listen to on your player. Or you realize that there isn't enough of a certain type of music for you and record exactly what you what yourself.

Your album Neverland is in Russian, although you used to have English songs in your repertoire. How did you decide whether to sing in Russian or English? What encouraged you to make this choice?

In fact, we haven't switched to Russian for good. We still sing in both languages. We just wanted to record the Russian-language material that had piled up... In the future, we'll definitely release another purely English-language record, but probably under a different name. We're InWhite now, a group that lives in Russia and sings in Russian.

You have some experience with crowdfunding. What are your impressions? Would you repeat the experiment?

Indeed, our fans helped us to raise a certain amount for the release of our album, but we think that this method isn't one hundred percent effective for young bands. And it only makes sense if it works to perfection. Maybe we'll repeat the experiment again, say, ten years from now.

Fans of the group report that singer Yulia loves birds but doesn't like getting roses. Where did her love for the former and dislike of the latter come from? Which flowers make the performer happy?

Indeed, Yulia loves birds, loves flowers, but doesn't like roses... You see, she's been performing on stage from a young age and was almost always presented with roses. But these flowers bring up sickly-sweet associations; it's just an inexplicable aversion. Next time, try giving Julia sunflowers – that will definitely make her happy.

It's well known that Dmitry Emelyanov works with Zemfira. How do you manage to combine the two projects, especially when it comes to touring?

It was surprising easy to resolve this issue. The thing is, Evgeny used to earn a living in almost a dozen projects at once. Now we have the opportunity to take a more thoughtful approach to music and devote more time to it, which is wonderful.

Four suitably ironic, well-dressed and well-read young New Yorkers from the upper middle class captivated the blogosphere with their album Vampire Weekend all the way back in 2008. Yesterday they released their third record Modern Vampires of the City. Their image of charming loafers in polo shirts, mulling over existence in the big, multicultural city, contributed greatly to their success. On their third album, Vampire Weekend play indie-pop in optima forma – energetic, multi-layered, unpredictable and rich in detail. There are fewer African motifs (superproducer Ariel Rechtshaid worked on the sound) and compulsive literary references, but more expertly constructed melodies and immediately catchy tunes. Meanwhile, the songs are for the most part about faith. On the best tracks (Worship You, Ya Hey, Finger Back), the lyrical persona appeals directly to God. Frontman Ezra Koenig sounds ecstatic, almost like a Baptist minister, although he never loses his intelligent charm.

The Rain video shows a typical day in the life of Markus Schulz: journey to work, a long shift with pensive glances out of the window and, finally, a frantic night of dancing. Very similar to the Friday plans of many Muscovites.

"No sane man will dance," said Cicero. The events in Booka Shade's clip for Teenage Spaceman only reaffirm these words. The blue spaceman (such a darling!) makes a group of white-collar workers dance frantically using only the power of thought.

The video for Bonaparte's track Too Much starts with a crime. After getting a hefty blow to the head, the main character's soul leaves his body and goes wandering through the desert in search of... the meaning of life, friends, water? Whatever you like.

Ellen Allien's video for Sun The Rain illustrates a classic day on summer vacation at grandma's house in a village: a beautiful girl walks in an open field, sunbathes, rejoices in rays of sunshine and goes swimming in the river with her friends in the evening. Not a bad day!

The xx – «Together»

Daft Punk – Get Lucky ft. Pharrell Williams

A preview video for the new Daft Punk record, which will be released in the U.S. on May 21 (four days earlier in a number of other countries), recently appeared online. You can already pre-order Random Access Memories on iTunes, but it's almost impossible to track down Get Lucky on the internet. The rights-holders have been methodically removing the song from every possible source, at the same time creating quite a stir around the upcoming album. As if Duft Punk's appearance in the Saint Laurent Paris ad campaign wasn't already enough! Anyway, we decided to post the first live version of this excellent song so as not to annoy the copyright police.

Azealia Banks – Yung Rapunxel

Azealia Banks is well known for her tendency to publicly have it out with fellow stars on Twitter: Perez Hilton, Angel Hayes, Bauer and Rita Ora have all already been on the receiving end. A$AP Rocky was pulled in to the latest scandal when Banks suggested that he finally "come out of the closet". However, Azealia announced her departure from social media the other day and even deleted her accounts to try and stay out of trouble. Only time will tell whether this move will improve relations with her colleagues or if she will find another way to annoy people she doesn't like. In the meantime, you can watch the video for first single Yung Rapunxel and look forward to her performance at the Martini Art Love festival on June 30. Maybe she'll end up doing something scandalous after all...

The xx – Together

To say that Night + Day, the forthcoming series of mini-festivals organized by The xx, is full of intrigue would be an understatement. The group is planning to perform at a Lisbon port, an abandoned amusement park in Berlin and a palace in a London park. The first concert will coincide with the release of the soundtrack (featuring The xx) for The Great Gatsby, one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Andy Cato – Times & Places

Andy Cato, one half of duo Groove Armada, announced at the beginning of the year that he was planning to release his first solo album. No sooner said than done: Times & Places came out on April 29. The musician mentioned that the material built up over 15 years. Try to figure out the chronological order in which the 18 tracks were recorded. The rare photographs and notes about the musician's life in the booklet are sure to please devoted fans.

Crystal Castles – Affection

It's difficult to imagine Canadian duo Crystal Castles involved in a decent scandal. It seems they lead a reasonably calm and relaxed life... until they go on stage. Alice Glass's wild dancing, crowdsurfing and irrepressible energy are distinguishing features of their live performances. Some of this made it into the video for track Affection from the album (III). Let's watch it and get warmed up in anticipation of the Crystal Castles performance at the Park Live festival on June 30.

Sturdy, good-natured MC Homeboy Sandman from Queens is considered by many to be one of the best artists on the Stones Throw label. Some say he's one of the best rappers on the whole Atlantic coast. His new EP Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent is about to come out and is dedicated to Jamaican DJ Kool Herc, who is seen as the father of modern hip-hop and a few other related genres. The video for the first single, Peace & Love, appeared online on Tuesday.

2 Chainz has belatedly released a melancholic black-and-white video for Like Me, a song from his first album Based on a T.R.U. Story. Of particular note are the lines devoted to the object of the lyricist's affection: "(her) pussy so clean I could go to church in it". The hook is sung by Canadian new R&B prophet Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd.

A$AP Mob have released a fascinating video for the track Persian Wine from last year's mixtape Lord$ Never Worry. Harlem resident Asap Ferg, usually kept in the background by his group's noisy leader, plays the title role. By the way, he's promised that he will release his solo mixtape Trap Lord soon, which will feature Danny Brown, Onyx and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony among others.

Wiz Khalifa's new video 'Bout Me premiered on Friday. Cheerful stoners throwing money at the camera (a couple of years ago Wiz admitted that he spends $10,000 a month on marijuana), a gold statue with a bunch of hemp and an ashtray full of joints on a sarcophagus are all on display. In short, everybody sing with me, we're young and carefree. Pay attention to Problem and Iamsu!'s performances; their lines are more interesting than Wiz's and they look fresher too.

Gucci Mayne's buddy Young Dolph pays tribute to great basketball player LeBron James in his new video accompanied by fat, catchy trap. If at least half of the tracks on Young Dolph's new mixtape are as good as this one, it will be worth paying attention to.

"All flags will come to visit us" is a motto that aptly describes the nights out in Arma. Cutting-edge DJs from seven countries (predominantly dark-haired, of course) are going to do their thing at the club on Saturday.
Philadelphia-born Josh Wink is known for his remixes of Moby and Depeche Mode, and his own tracks have repeatedly topped European and American dance charts. Brit Max Cooper writes neat, measured tech-house. Brazilian project Click Box makes serious, precise minimal and Berlin-based musician Samuel Kerridge is well known for his cool dub-techno. Italian project Plaster will add some deep ambient with a few mysterious noises to the mix. And that's not all! Ron Basejam and Toby Tobias from the UK, Tama Sumo from Germany, Italian project Kaeba, KLTTR from the Netherlands and Delete from Venezuela will also be there.

To sum up, you'll definitely find something interesting to listen to and watch, as always.

A Guy Called Gerald – серьезная фигура манчестерской acid house сцены, известная еще с 80-х.
Американец Род Моделл – основатель и, на данный момент, единственный участник проекта DeepChord. Создает шершавое глубоководное техно .
Ник Хопнер – экс-журналист, а ныне видный берлинский техно диск-жокей.
Redshape – скрывающий лицо под красной маской самобытный немецкий музыкант, чьи произведения имеют упругое и суровое механическое звучание.

Almost every music fan has at least a couple of U.N.K.L.E albums in their library. It's not surprising – what these guys do with music is worthy of the most resounding applause. Their booming drum sound and light grinding combined with a tender and pure sound leave no listener indifferent to this day. James Lavelle is coming to Shanti with a DJ set on 19 April.

Saturday night in Arma promises to be action-packed as ever. So many powerful names (musically speaking, that is) in one place. How could you miss it?
The line-up includes:
Mount Kimbie – British duo, representatives of the Hotflush Recordings label. Its members Dominic Maker and Kai Campos write incredibly airy compositions that clearly show the influence of ambient, IDM and folktronica. The buzzword "post-dubstep" can definitely be applied to their genre.
A Guy Called Gerald – a major figure of the Manchester acid house scene who's been around since the 80s.
Rod Modell – American founder and, for the moment, only member of project DeepChord. Makes rough, deep techno.
Nick Höppner – ex-journalist, now a prominent Berlin techno DJ.
Redshape – the mechanical tracks of this distinctive German musician, who hides his face under a red mask, sound both springy and severe.

The popular project by producer Diplo got a new album. The record (it's called Free the Universe) is an amalgam of reggaeton, reggae, dubstep, electropop and another half a dozen various dance genres with an international slant. Guest starts help out Diplo on each track: such seemingly disparate artists as Bruno Mars, Peaches, Wyclef Jean, Santigold, Tiga, Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend and Amber Coffman from the Dirty Projectors took part in recording. That all sounds entertaining, but in practice it's overly eclectic and a bit tedious in the long run. Then again, this over-the-top approach was chosen with the sole intention of making you shake your booty at a party no matter what. Diplo and Co have certainly pulled that off.

He later got seriously interested in electrofunk and recorded a solid number of hits in that genre. Come to Rodnya to have a look at, and more importantly, listen to the super-cool artist.

The group has been around for 18 years and remains a role model for many young members of the dance scene. Crazy P's music is a warming infusion of sexual house with hints of bold funk and invigorating disco. Expect an exciting DJ set from the artists in the Russian capital.

Golden-haired vixen DJ Tini – one of the most popular representatives of the German techno and house community. Her music is as impulsive as her character.
Yossi Amoyal – the humble son of a trumpeter, who never aspired to be a great DJ and get famous, but as fate would have it, that's bound to happen to him anyway. Owns label Sushitech.
Dorian Pike – resident of club Cocoon on hot Ibiza. Dorian's music, however, is notable for its refreshing character.
DJ Makam – Dutch house magician. Old school notes gently seep into the romantic and solemn sound of his tracks, making his music even warmer.
