Artists' Book Exhibit At Boo-Hooray

artistsbook

When is an artist's book not an artist's book, or vice versa? These are the questions that will be at the center of an upcoming exhibit at Boo-Hooray, which will be accompanied by a book of its own, published by 6 Decades. From January 18 to February 12, Boo-Hooray will host Artists' Book Not Artists' Book, curated by Johan Kugelberg and Jeremy Sanders. Designed to blur the aforementioned lines, the show features "books that are, and/or, are not, artists’ books." Visitors are invited to make their own distinctions just as the curators have done, with a collection that includes books by a long list of contributors including Ira Cohen, Richard Meltzer, Richard Hell, Richard Prince, William Gibson, David Wojnarowicz, Ed Ruscha, and many more.

The catalogue, which is available from 6 Decades Books, was put together after the manner of an old-school back-to-back double pulp novel, and in addition to offering comprehensive bibliographic info, there's a description of each book in the show, with Kugelberg and Sanders playing point/counterpoint, offering their varying perspectives on each piece in the context of the theme. A full-color fold-out poster featuring all the books is also included, so you can paste a piece of the show on your wall when you get home.
