Behind The Scenes At Katie Gallagher's NYFW Show
We've partnered with The Formula's Aimee Blaut to get behind the scenes footage from New York Fashion Week. Blaut takes us backstage at Katie Gallagher (see more images here.) Gallagher is making her mark on the New York fashion scene but the young designer is using her rural Pennsylvania roots as inspiration for her fall/winter 2012 collection. Born "in the middle of a forest," she captured the free spirit and natural shapes of the outdoors in her designs.
"The forest is a space that a city can not possess," she says. "Katie Gallagher's fall/winter 2012 collection, Silent Soil, is about bringing the atmosphere of the places that the spirit knows to the places that the body lives."
A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Gallagher has been working on her own since. A master of unconventional pattern, her designs aim to tell a story through the people that wear her designs.
“I normally create a scene, a narrative, or sometimes a whole universe that I would be interested in making a reality, and then I fill these worlds with people. ...The people just happen to be wearing what's appropriate to their surroundings and ideas. Clothes aren't really at the center of my interests; the people that wear them and their ideals are.”
