Chairlift Conquers the World
What a difference an iPod commercial makes. Brooklyn synth-poppers Chairlift released their 2008 debut album, Does You Inspire You, on NYC indie label Kanine, but after the song "Bruises" entered the hearts of TV viewers via the aforementioned spot, the band blew up, and their follow-up album, Something, is due out January 24 on Columbia Records, who previously reissued the debut. Fans have already gotten a taste of the new record through the videos that have been posted, perhaps most memorably the clip for "Amanaemonesia," where singer Caroline Polachek gets her Merce Cunningham on. There's also a pared-down take on the album's "Ghost Tonight" that was done for Black Cab Sessions.
From January 13 all the way through the end of April, Chairlift will be spreading the synth-pop gospel all over the planet. After their 1/23 album release show at the Bowery Ballroom, they'll embark on a world tour that takes them everywhere from Melbourne to Munich before returning to the States along with dance-pop siren Nite Jewel. In the meantime, if you're interested in scoping out a little something extra from Chairlift that you won't find on the band's upcoming album, listen below to "Amanaemonesia" B-side "Peculiar Paradise."
