Cooper Square Hotel Presents Joe's Pub 'Summer Salon Series'

The cultural life of New York City seemed like it was set to take a hit this summer, as Joe's Pub, the city's renowned, long-running venue for music and more, announced plans to go temporarily dark during July-September renovations. But with a tenacity and inspiration typical of the NYC arts scene, the folks at Joe's found a way to keep offering intriguing musical experiences even while the club is closed. Not only that, those sonic settings will be environmentally enriched by their surroundings, as Joe's moves on up to their Summer Salon Series at the Cooper Square Hotel.

Sharing the same East Village neighborhood as Joe's, the Cooper Square Hotel will provide a home away from home for the kind of eclectic, occasionally exotic programming the venue has become famous for, but it will also add something extra to the mix. The Summer Salon Series, which begins on July 13, will take place in the hotel's 21st-floor penthouse, which offers some stunning vistas via a 360-degree city view through the penthouse's floor-to-ceiling windows and wraparound terrace. Shanta Thake, Director of Joe's Pub looks forward to the series taking advantage of "an intimate space with beautiful views of the city."

And just what sort of musical fare will be on offer at that lofty height? Everything from the 1930s Berlin cabaret stylings of Weimar New York, featuring guest performance artist Penny Arcade and others, to the funk-meets-Eastern Europe sounds of Sxip Shirey & Raya Brass Band, Chile-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Francisca Valenzeula, postmodern acoustic chamber-pop ensemble Pearl and the Beard, and more, with further details to be found at the Joe's Pub website.
