Mia Moretti is an International Body Mover

Mia-Moretti-1

"I'm still not sure what time zone I'm in, but it was definitely worth it.

Okay, let's just go ahead and get the particulars out of the way first. Yes, she's pretty. Yes, she is a good actor, having obtained some pretty good book learnin' from UCLA's School Of Theater and even studying the craft with Vincent Chase, yep, theeVincent Chase, the actor that Adrian Grenier's character is based on in the HBO series Entourage. And yes, the 20-something Berkley, CA native is just as awesome as you think she is.

Having developed a heavy rep on the decks has afforded the blonde mixer the opportunity to meet President Obama and share stages with the likes of MGMT, Katy Perry and a host of other creative cronies. Her exploits are an excuse to travel around the world spreading the gift of music. Usually providing the musical backdrop for scenes that include crowds of sweaty dancers and feverishly flickering lights, DJ Mia Moretti is an international body mover. Fresh off a recent jaunt through Asia, we got to peek into the life of the jet setting DJ.

"I actual went to Asia on three separate trips last month, because I had other U.S. gigs in between," says the always in-demand Moretti, who recently left her mark on Tokyo, Shanghai and Singapore. "I'm still not sure what time zone I'm in, but it was definitely worth it."

Known for her eclectic playlists and affinity for party-perfect grooves, she relishes in the opportunity to test her chops overseas.

"You really have to look at the room and try to read the crowd at each place," she explains. "In Tokyo, the club I played was a very small room that looked like a strip club that turned into a dance club at 2am. The party I played in Shanghai was a private event for Target and Stereolab and the club I played at in Singapore was the official fashion week after-party. I think I can adapt pretty quickly to any party, if you can't do that you might as well go home."

Moretti says her keen ear for pop music and ability to read a dance floor are her best allies in the battle to win over a crowd.

"Singapore was definitely the craziest — they love a good time and they love house music," she says, adding that Tokyo heads were more into the hip-hop portion of her set. But no matter the locale, she says that radio-ready hits are still a winner anywhere you go on the globe. "Rihanna, Katy Perry, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta.... no matter where you go Top 40 is still Top 40."

She adds, “The best part of traveling is meeting people and experiencing a new culture. I didn't stop eating in Japan, I had sushi for breakfast when I could." And with trips to Paris and Toronto lined up to open for Janet Jackson (Ms. Jackson if you're nasty) and an opening for the Chip & Pepper store respectively, the globetrotting party-rocker has no plans on giving her passport a rest anytime soon.

When asked if she's treated any differently being a female DJ traveling abroad, she isn’t afraid to strike a diva pose. "I wouldn't know what to compare it to,” she quips, “because I've never been a male DJ traveling abroad."
