Nervous Records Releases New Mix by Cielo's Nicolas Matar
Cielo holds a special place in the history of New York City nightlife. The club -- which happens to be celebrating its ninth anniversary this Saturday, January 28 with sets by Cassy, Willie Graff, and the club's own proprietor, Nicolas Matar — was one of the key elements in making the city's Meatpacking District into the cultural and commercial hotbed it is today. As you might imagine, Matar has had no small role in that success, but his skills as a DJ go hand in hand with his expertise as a nightclub visionary, and with the help of Nervous Records, Matar is sharing those skills with the world via his new mix CD, Cielo Sunrise, which is set for a March 6 release.
The Nervous label is certainly no stranger to Cielo, either, as they host their own night at the club on the first Tuesday of each month. And now they're assisting Matar and company in sharing a bit of the Cielo spirit with the world at large. The Cielo Sunrise mix aims to give listeners a feel for what it's like to spend an evening stomping, swirling, and sweating it out at the club while Matar and others give it their all behind the decks. Toward that end, the mix ventures into all corners of the dance music universe, from house to techno to disco and beyond, with cuts from Layo & Bushwacka!, Jordi Bouman, and Deniz Kurtel, to name just a few. And if you're in town, you can help celebrate the release by showing up for its launch party at Cielo on March 31.
