Ouattara Watts’ 'Vertigo' Takes Art World To New Heights

Ouattara Watts: Vertigo Opening

Art has the ability to examine and provoke concepts of human nature. Neo-expressionist painter Ouattara Watts’ Vertigo features around 20 new works in a West Village Space (buzz door 37E at 560 Washington St. for entry).

The exhibition is a exploration of Ouattara's view of life, love, work, and artistic encounters. Born on the Ivory Coast, educated in France, and mentored by Jean Michel Basquiat, Ouattara has long since established himself as one of the seminal contemporary African artists to hit the New York scene.

This exhibition, on display until February 19, will mark his first major show in New York City in more than five years. Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld presents the solo show during New York's fall fashion week in order to broaden Ouattara's audience. The Opening Reception was a delightful mix of models, art enthusiasts, and luminaries such as Carine Roitfeld, Rachel Roy and Giovanna Battaglia.

The mood was lax, wine was sipped, friends from all parts reunited, and anticipation for a week of fashion in New York gave a similar feeling of stationary motion.
