You know that feeling you get when you walk into a dark, unfamiliar lounge in New York City and are hit with a minimal, sexy funk? That’s the feeling Samn! wants you to feel anytime you want.

“It has a sinister yet sensual vibe, but at the same time it felt liberating,” Samn! says of his latest single, “In My House.” “I'm usually into the subjects of a provocative nature — kink, spirituality, and machismo. I think that's what helps me just be who I am — unapologetic, yet sincere, sexual, and brave. And that's the vibe I wanted to give off in the song.”

The minimal house track features vocalist Tigga Calore rapping the infectious, S&M-inspired hook, “black leather Nikes, whips and chains,” alongside darkly sensual vocals from Samn! himself. The song, slated to be included on a forthcoming full-length on Royal Advisor Records, is the latest from Samn!, a New York-based club promoter/vocalist/producer originally from Chicago.

“I first got into music through church, which is probably every little African-American child's first exposure to music some way or the other,” he says. “My mom sang since I was in her belly, all the way up until now. She still sings in our church choir.”

“I became more acquainted with house, hip-hop, and juke music through my older siblings,” he continues. “I'm the youngest of three. I would watch my sister or brother get ready for a party at the nearby clubs they used to go out to in the early- to mid-90s, and they'd be playing cassette tapes of the music to their favorite songs.”

Samn! is already a recognizable figure in the Manhattan club scene, where he’s made a name for himself as a promoter of the infamous Mr. Black parties at Mansion. An art school grad with a degree in fashion design, Samn! currently promotes Ms. Thang, an LGBT party with DJ Tikka Masala at Sweet Revenge in Brooklyn.

“I keep my clubs days a little less these days, and I spend more time creating, experimenting, and loving music,” he says. “Although I'm no stranger to the dance floor and a well lit disco ball.”
