I really focused on connecting with fans and interacting with them through social media in addition to my music.
2011 was a rewarding year for Mel DeBarge. He took his party vibes to Paris Fashion Week and regularly brought his turntable magic to parties at the best clubs in New York City and beyond. "I feel like I had an amazing year all around. I learned a lot as far as how to have my career grow through alternative sources," says DeBarge. "I really focused on connecting with fans and interacting with them through social media in addition to my music."
Just before the end of the year, DeBarge launched a iPhone app which connects with his fans/friends to his personal fashion/lifestyle website Bowties & Goodtimes. "I had a strong urge to find new ways to interact with my fans and people who love fashion as I do, and I thought this app was a great way to connect. I love bowties, which is clearly evident in this app. Plus, it was important for me to have the user keep engaged in my blog while on the move. What better way to do this than through an iPhone app!
Looking ahead to 2012, DeBarge says he isn't going to rest on his laurels and is in the process of making more moves on the creative front. "I plan to keep finding new ways to get my art into people's hands, eyes, and ears. I also want to spin at more events... Everyone loves a good party, why not! Additionally, I'm going to concentrate on making more mixes and partnering with brands. One project that I'm very excited about is Renonights.com, which I'm doing with some of my friends. It's all video media based, and we do amazing video work for events/parties and music concept videos. 2012 will be a great year for my brand to keep growing. I'm excited!
