Unsound Festival Unleashed In April
Unsound is the festival so intense it takes two different cities far across the globe from each other to properly facilitate it. There's no one musical style the Unsound Festival adheres to — everything from ambient music to avant-garde classical composition is part of its rubric. The only thing every artist on the annual Unsound roster has in common is their uncompromising approach to music and their ability to push the envelope. The festival began in Poland and will celebrate it's tenth anniversary there this fall, but while New York has only been hosting its spring session of Unsound since 2010, this year's Unsound Festival New York is shaping up to be one for the record books.
Between April 18 and 22, Brooklyn and Manhattan venues including ISSUE Project Room, BAMcinematek, and Le Poisson Rouge, will offer up Unsound 2012 in all its uncategorizable glory. German glitch-dub pioneer POLE, avant-pop outfit Hype Williams, the dark ambient sound of Demdike Stare, and the spacey, psychedelic atmospheres of Sun Araw represent only a few of the artistic avenues Unsound will guide listeners through in New York this year. The premiere of TRINITY, a specially commissioned piece by veteran electronic texturalists Biosphere and Lustmord, adds even more to the uniqueness of the event. And that's not even getting into what will be going on in Poland later this year...
