The late 1960s and early 1970s are well known as an era of great change and social revolution, but the radicalism of the period that would follow is usually overlooked in the big picture. In the New Museum exhibition, "The Ungovernables," focus is put on Gen-X artists and their response to the urgencies of their time.

With an emphasis on the constant state of flux society is in, "The Ungovernables," is an exhibit that focuses on the past and how it relates now to the present. With works by Adrián Villar Rojas, Danh Võ, and Julia Dault, to name a few, there will be various installations that draw attention to the imperfections of civilization, such as Rojas' sculptures which depict the inevitability of objects failing over time.

Among some of the other 34 contributors, Jonathas de Andrade’s "Ressaca Tropical" will also be featured, which consists of over 100 photographs of entries from a diary he found in the garbage. The House of Natural Fiber will also be there, showing how they've learned how to make electronic music from the sounds made during the process of distilling homemade fruit wine.

"The Ungovernables" will be a multiple floor event for New Museum and will feature works in the lobby gallery as well, many of which will be featured in the U.S. for the very first time.
