Upcoming Event: Tune-Yards @ The Allen Room
Merrill Garbus's brand of intricately sequenced looping fury will be breaking in the Allen Room at Frederick P. Rose Hall this Thursday night. For those who have not yet familiarized themselves with the fruits of her band, Tune-Yards, there are a few tidbits that may prove useful. For starters, their last album, whokill, was the toast of 2011, brilliantly mixing Afrobeat rhythms and cleverly arranged electronics. As arresting as that album is though, the full glory of Tune-Yards is best experienced through live performance where one can witness Garbus unfold the songs through a series of loops she creates live, using snare drum, ukulele, and guitar, accompanied by bassist Nate Brenner and a saxophone section. The Allen Room is well known for its great acoustics which will be a great platform for Garbus and company to flaunt their skills at this Thursday's show.
