Better Know A Blogger: ItsMusicFashionLife
The big curly afros and neon block coloured outfits say it all; Carcia and Telly Campbell are natural born fashionistas. The two sisters are the founders of the blog ItsMusicFashionLife, which centers on everything fashion, music and pop culture. When they’re not blogging, they can be spotted at notorious Toronto fashion events, like the Toronto Fashion Incubator and Toronto Fashion week, taking notes and soaking up the fashion scene. The sisters have also been featured on The Morning Show and HuffPost Canada Style, giving out their knowledgeable fashion advice. Passionate and fearless, the duo is adamant about bringing fashion and art into everyday life.
How did your blog come about?
It was actually pretty random; one day at work, we decided to start our own blog that showcases up and coming trends. Although it started off pretty low key, we noticed that people were really taking an interest and it’s just been getting better from there!
Explain your tagline “Stilettos and Rock n Roll”.
We both grew up with a really eclectic mix of friends. We had one group that exclusively listened to music and cared little about fashion. On the other hand, we had fashionistas that were following the latest trends and constantly shopping. We ended up being cross breeds of fashion and music, and now we live our life that way. We’re really active in the fashion scene but we’re also into scouting upcoming musicians and artists.
Recently, you’ve added two new beauty gurus to your blog. Why?
We both believe that beauty is a huge part of fashion. However, because both of us don’t have professional experience in that area, we decided to ask Victoria Fedosoff and Wendy Crystal (both beauty experts and insiders) for a hand. Our website is about embracing beauty and we believe that anyone can be beautiful and fashionable, no matter what size or shape they are. It’s all about feeling good about yourself because confidence and inner beauty image are key.
Where do you get your style inspiration?
Carcia: I’m a huge fan of Diana Ross because she has set the standard for a lot of pop artists today. We want our readers to learn about where these fashion references come from because fashion is always recycled and trends always re-emerge from the past.
Telly: I love Tina Turner because I’m such an 80’s kid. She has such a fiery personality and it definitely translates into her style. She always exudes confidence and isn’t afraid to change up her look.
What are you doing when you’re not blogging?
(They both exclaim at the same time) Shopping!!! We’re also really big foodies, so we love going to different restaurants and trying new dishes. Although we love food, we don’t really want to blog about it because it’s more of a personal thing; we want to completely dedicate ourselves to fashion.
What are staple items that all women should have in their wardrobe?
A black blazer; basic black pumps; something leather and studded that you can pair with a feminine piece; and good accessories that can make a simple outfit into something amazing.
What would you tell aspiring fashionistas that want to start a blog?
Just do it. Even if you don’t really know what you’re doing in the beginning, you just need to go for it. Also, don’t be scared to network with other bloggers; the community is super friendly!
