Drinking In… Zagreb
For centuries, Zagreb has been a stopover for travellers journeying from East to West (or vice versa). No doubt these travellers wanted to take a break, and enjoy the Croatian capital’s many attractions. In recent years, Zagreb has become one of the most exciting party cities in Europe. With its lively house music scene and many nightclubs and bars, Zagreb already has a reputation for a vibrant nightlife, and is set to become a European place to be. Here’s your guide to the perfect night out in Croatia’s capital city.
Start off your night at one of the city’s institutions, Hemingway Bar. Located on Tuksanac right across from the National Theatre, the Hemingway Bar boasts an impressively chic design, a sophisticated ambiance, and indulgent cocktails. The Ernest Hemingway Special, which mixes Maraschino, rum, grapefruit juice and lime juice, is an absolute must.
If you’re looking for a more trendy and urban vibe, Lemon, located on Ljudetvita Gaja, is the place to go. With its flashy green bar at the centre of the room, swanky murals adorning the back walls, and beautiful canopied courtyard, Lemon is the perfect setting for sipping cocktails on a summer evening. This glamorous venue transforms into a nightclub as the sun sets, leaving the beats of local DJs to heat up the night.
Sokol Klub is a classic destination from 10 pm to 4 am for those who want to keep the party going. Not only it is renowned for being one of the first and finest clubs in the capital, but it is also a popular meeting place for expats and travellers looking for a good time. Because of Sokol’s popular Saturday night fashion shows and dedication to playing the best new music in town, the club has become an urban landmark and essential stop on any club crawl.
Next to Jarun Lake, just a few kilometres away from the centre of the city, you’ll find Club Mansion. Enjoy the beautiful people, delicious mixed drinks, and busy dancefloor, as well as the huge aquarium filled with… piranhas. Club Mansion closes at 5, and is the perfect place to end the night.
When making your way through the Zagreb’s clubs sipping drinks and swinging your hips, it’s easy to see why Croatia’s reputation for a vibrant nightlife is so well-deserved.
