Toronto: Drinking in Winter Wonderland
While it has not felt much like winter this year in Toronto (not that anyone seems to be complaining), one thing that is surely missed is that one minor snowfall that covers everything in just enough snow to render every moment a beautiful one. For those whose idea of a good winter experience is not skating, skiing or sledding, a great indoor view is a reasonable substitute. Combine a great winter view with a great meal, and you will satisfy the winter love in all of us.
360 – The CN Tower
You cannot talk about breathtaking Toronto views without including the CN Tower in the mix. The rotating restaurant in the tower, 360, offers a complete view of the city over the course of your meal. However, while the location is fantastic, there is something about not seeing the iconic tower in the landscape that detracts from the overall enjoyment of the view. Regardless, it remains among the top five!
The Park Hyatt Rooftop Lounge
Located on the 18th floor in the middle of Yorkville, the Rooftop Lounge has a beautiful south-facing view of the city. Often home to celebrities and the nouveau riche, the lounge retains its appeal to locals looking for a great evening with friends. A light bar menu, one of my favourite martinis in the city and a great view combine to make the Rooftop Lounge one of the best in the city.
Scaramouche
While in summer, Scaramouche’s view is slightly less stunning, but with a dusting of snow, the experience is enhanced, placing the top-notch restaurant at number 3. A delicious menu and the view make it ideal for an intimate date among lovers. While the panorama of windows appears to provide a great view from all angles, a reservation near the window is always a good idea.
Panorama
As the name suggests, Panorama offers a glorious view of the city from 51 floors up. Cocktails and tapas are the main offering, making it an ideal beginning or end to a date. While the winter view is incredible at Panorama, it would clearly top this list come summer with its patio. Dress to impress as the crowd here is just as stunning as the view.
Canoe
Located on the 54th floor of the TD Bank Tower, Canoe offers the best winter view in the city. Table 38 is almost an iconic table at this point, playing host to the most marriage proposals in the city. If it is unavailable, tables 9 and 14 are also solid choices. Canoe also features a menu that is truly out of this world – might I recommend the beef tartare and the Alberta lamb? If you are looking for dining excellence with a meal, cocktail and a great winter view, Canoe is your best bet!
