Travel Gems: Four Must-Stay Boutique Hotels in Toronto

It couldn't be simpler to book a trip to a major metropolis online, only to wind up in a familiar-looking albeit comfortable hotel or comfort suite. But for those in search of something a little more extravagant, the lesser-known hotels that room fewer guests often hold more lustre, offering a sleepover experience that is all but ordinary. Here's a rundown of four boutique hotels in Toronto that are perfect for the epicurean traveller...

Hotel Ocho
This converted industrial building in the heart of Chinatown launched as Hotel Ocho about a year ago. Its open concept Scandinavian style is modern, yet showcases the original architecture of the building, raised in 1902. There are 12 hotel rooms, each as austerely gorgeous as the next. The culinary program is also pretty spectacular, and the bar/lounge is trendy sophistication.

Hotel Victoria
Although it's gone through quite the transformation of late, with remodelled rooms and updated decor, Hotel Victoria remains a piece of Toronto history. Sandwiched between tall buildings near Yonge and King, Hotel Victoria was once known as the hotel with a waterfront view. While the vista has changed somewhat, the historical building and uber-central location are pure perfection for the wandering tourist.

The Ivy at Verity
If you judge a hotel's 'boutique' factor by the number of rooms, then the Ivy at Verity's four, count 'em, four, should be enough to have you signing up on the waitlist. Each is treated differently, offering up a completely unique atmosphere no matter which you choose. The Ivy definitely has the authenticity and luxury you seek.

Hotel Le Germain
Le Germain hotels are known for their exceptional service and amenities, and Toronto's outpost is no exception. The style is contemporary chic, and the Theatre District location is perfect for those show-catching visitors. Its area also borders the Entertainment District and the hotel restaurant, helmed by David Chrystian, is truly something else.

Honourable Mentions: The Drake Hotel and the Gladstone Hotel are Queen West boutique gems.
