Release: Alabama Shakes are the band on everybody’s lips at the moment and their debut album Boys & Girls is released on Rough Trade this week. This Jack White-endorsed quintet are led by fierce-voiced front woman Brittany Howard and play comforting blues rock with a bohemian edge.

Festival: UK film fans will be flocking to the capital from Thursday for the 9th London Independent Film Festival. Check out exclusive shorts and full length features including a drama based on occultist Aleister Crowley’s life and a Horror-packed schedule suitably showing on Friday 13th.

Gig: Spooky Swedish popsters Simian Ghost play live at Surya on Pentonville Road this Tuesday. The trio will play songs from their recently released album Youth and are ably supported by Decibels and the exotically named Exmoor Emperor.

Club: Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons label has been responsible for some huge tunes this year and on Friday they team up with Oscillate Wildly for a massive night at Corsica Studios. The line-up includes a live performance from Addison Groove as well as storming sets of epic bass from Dark Sky and Shed Vs EQD.
