Better Know A Blogger: Jessica R. of Hapa Time

By Nilina Mason-Campbell

Up and running for just under a year, the style blog Hapa Time has already built a large following thanks in part to its founder and subject, Jessica R. Multiple times per week she showcases her edgy style in photo heavy posts, showing off her taste which is a blend of fearless, flirty, fun and feminine. Many of her trendy outfits make it look as if she’s just stepped out of a catalog or off the website Nasty Gal, which is incidentally one of her favorite brands. The blog’s name, Hapa Time, comes from Jessica’s half-Japanese and Hawaiian heritage that traces back to her grandparents. A resident of the Bay Area city of Los Gatos, the graphic designer and web editor now sits down to share the full story behind her wardrobe, her inspirations and of course, her online hub.

How would you describe yourself?
Jessica R: I consider myself to be a friendly, easy going, hard working and happy person.

How would you describe your style?
My style is classy, on trend, sexy and polished.

What led to you starting your blog?
I needed a creative outlet once I finished school and was left working at home all the time! It’s been up since late 2011/early 2012.

Who are your fashion icons?

Miranda Kurr, Shea Marie of Cheyenne Meets Chanel, Annabelle of Viva Luxury, Miroslava Duma, Rosie Huntington, Olivia Palermo.

What are your favorite brands?
Nasty Gal, Aldo, Black Milk, Asos, Zara, Bebe.

Other than the bralette trend, what are your favorite fashion trends of the moment?
I love a touch of faux fur, chunky jeweled necklaces and printed leggings.

You wear a lot of accessories. In your mind what is the key to a good accessory?
Unique, trendy but quality pieces always seem to get the most use.

What’s your favorite color to dress in?
Black! It’s timeless, chic and goes with everything but pastel, (and I pretty much only wear pastels during the spring) so it’s a great color, year round.

No outfit is complete without…
The perfect shoes and makeup.

What are you favorite opportunities that have come you way through the blog?

It’s been really amazing reaching out to girls all over the world, and not only that but making friends! I am also so happy to have helped so many small boutiques get some visibility and of course I have met a lot of important people that have opened up new doors of opportunity too. It is endless and it is wonderful!

What are your ambitions outside of the blog?
I hope to create a successful career, (though related in part to my blog), have a happy family, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What do you do when you’re not blogging?
I work, workout, hang out with friends, read, clean and cook. But I actually don’t have too much time outside of work and blogging…
