Mr & Mrs Smith Soho House WeHo Launch Party

Mr. and Mrs. Smith do Southeast Asia. No, it’s not the Brangelina’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith you’re thinking, it’s the original UK jetsetter couple of the luxury hotel collection. Last Wednesday, at Soho House West Hollywood, LA tastemakers and celebrities came out to sip on Belvedere Vodka Singapore Slings and Chandon to celebrate their newest travel guide, Mr & Mrs Smith Hotel Collection: Southeast Asia.

After Mr. Smith booked a romantic weekend to woo his future Mrs. Smith that turned out to be far from dashing, they were inspired to create a hotel guide for other hipster gadabouts like themselves. Since 2003, they’ve scoured the globe for unique, gimmick-free, stylish escapes which they or their chic-seeking reviewers have had a personal experience with.

Think of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith Hotel Collection as a trusted globe-trotting friend with Vanity Fair-type travel recommends. Artists, writers, entrepreneurs and other well-known names (including Stella McCartney, Philip Treacy, Dita Von Teese and Cate Blanchett) anonymously review the collection with their partners and supply first-person stories of their Smith hotel stay.

And these are not just-the-facts-ma’am guide books. Each hotel has a personal story with tips on the best room or table to book along with quirky quibbles like “Fit in like a Local” and “Worth Getting Out of Bed For.”

The sleek photography is distinctive too  – like an art book rather than a text-heavy travel guide.  Mr. & Mrs. Smith Southeast Asia guidebook is certainly going on my coffee table between Weegee’s Naked Hollywood and Chinati: The Vision of Donald Judd.

Speaking of influential creatives, clusters of Los Angeles socialites, like actor Busy Phillips, director Mark Lafferty, designer Sarah Shetter, model Jessica Joffee and E! host Louise Roe, huddled around the latest Mr & Mrs Smith hotel guide to glean ideas for a future holiday to Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and others.

With visions of dancing scantily clad on Southeast Asian beaches in the near future, guests of the Soho Penthouse book launch scored Thai fortune cookies with cheeky messages like “A Happy Ending is in Your Future” and hotel stays.  They were also granted exclusive BlackSmith card memberships.

Just like the other big black card, this is also stacked with mighty luscious benefits. BlackSmith card members get access to Smith concierge service, VIP airport lounges, automatic room upgrades, free bottle of champagne in room, and discounts at luxury retailers and spas.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith boutique hotel collection has over 850 properties worldwide with seven guidebooks covering UK and Ireland, Italy, France, Coastal Europe and Australia/New Zealand. Wherever you go, they’ve cleared the way to make your next holiday as inspired and fabulous as you are.
