Maison Martin Margiela and DSquared2 Are Coming to Art Basel

By Fawnia Soo Hoo

From the looks of things, Art Basel Miami Beach may want to consider changing its name to Art and Fashion Basel. Along with the Christian Dior x Anselm Reyle collaboration pop-up that’s taking place during the much-anticipated festival, now comes word that Belgian-based Maison Martin Margiela and Dan and Dean Caten of DSquared2 will be upping the fashion ante with a pair of high-profile events.

Maison Martin Margiela’s arty objects and publication endeavor, Line 13, will be the focal point of the “Love” exhibition held near the Design District Margiela boutique at 4141 Northeast 2nd Ave. The design house will also be creating special pieces exclusively for its Art Basel debut. While an anointed few will be partaking in a cocktail reception at the Margiela boutique on December 1 (and taking an in-person a peek at the velcro-heavy and deconstructed Spring 2012 men’s and women’s wear collections), everyone will be able to visit the exhibit when it opens to the public from November 29 to December 3.

The DSquared2 affair is more of a VIP sort of thing taking place, appropriately, at the super chic Paris on South Beach: The Webster. The twins will be fêting their coverage in the VMAN winter ’11 issue along with a sure-to-be notable guest list comprised of fashion-types, edgy artists and celebrities.

Other fashion houses, please take note and join the fun next year.
